Presenters

PRESENTER Alan Kidger

After graduating in Applied Biology from the University of Hull, Alan spent four years employed in Pharmaceuticals as a Bioanalytical Scientist working on pharmacokinetic properties of drug delivery methods. Leaving the labs in 1998 he took on a role as technical support of the Soft Imaging Systems product portfolio for digital imaging in the UK, both in life and material science with a special focus on image analysis. In advance of the acquisition of Soft Imaging Systems by Olympus Europa, Alan moved to Olympus UK as an Imaging Specialist in 2003 working mainly in the field of widefield, spinning disk and TIRF microscopy. Moving into a role as Product Manager of precision automation hardware for Prior Scientific Instruments for 3 years before returning to microscopy imaging with ZEISS as Product & Application Sales Support specialist in 2014. Alan currently provides demonstration, training and user support for image analysis, widefield, confocal and automation.

Presenter Dr. Dieter Lauer

In his role as international business development manager for software at ZEISS, Dieter aims to enable microscopy users to benefit from state-of-the-art solutions for image procession and analysis, including but not limited to machine learning tools, 3D image segmentation and automated, scalable analysis pipelines. Graduated in bioengineering at the University of Applied Sciences Aachen in Germany, he won a Marie Curie fellowship and worked as an EC-funded Early Stage Researcher on Leukaemia and cancer signalling pathways at the Sapienza University in Rome. After being awarded a PhD in Molecular Medicine and before joining ZEISS, Dieter provided support as application scientist for end-to-end solutions in cellular biology and microscopy. Today, he supports colleagues in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America with a specific focus on software solutions tailored to the various customers needs for Light, Electron and X-Ray Microscopy.

  • Bring your laptop with pre-installed ZEN Software. Instructions will be shared after registration.
  • Basic understanding of microscopy concepts.
  • Microscopy images or datasets taken with any microscope.
